History
The photograph above shows a wedding couple in the old days, the first
choir of the NG Kerk and Mr Pieter van Aarde who still plowed using horses
up until 1967.
On the right are coins believed to have been given to Herrie, die Strandloper,
by his sister, Eva. Eva was married to Dr Van Meerhof, who was Jan van
Riebeeck’s ship doctor. Herrie would have lost it at the fountain
in Koringberg and it was only found over 300 years later in 1951.
Did you know that:
- In 1652, when Jan van Riebeeck arrived in the Cape, that Harry, the
Strandloper, was already using the water hole at Koringberg.
- The earthquake, in 1969, caused the centuries old fountain to collapse.
- The railway line through Warren’s Camp was completed in 1901.
- Brown Hyenas were prolific in the Koringberg area.
